It’s that time of year again - when a groundhog crawls out of a hole after its winter sleep to look for a shadow. If he sees it, he predicts there’ll be six more weeks of winter.

That's right, folks: it's Groundhog Day.

The holiday is a tradition celebrated in the US and Canada, which derives from a Pennsylvanian superstition that says if a groundhog sees its shadow upon emerging from its burrow on 2nd February, then winter will continue for six more weeks.

If it’s cloudy, then there’ll be an early spring that year.

With Groundhog Day upon us, now is the perfect time for the annual rewatch of the 1993 film of the same name, which stars Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell and revolves around cynical weatherman Phil Connors (Murray), who is sent to Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, to cover the annual Groundhog Day festivities.

There, amid a wild blizzard, Phil is somehow caught in a time warp and forced to relive the same day again and again.

Now, thanks to Murray and MacDowell’s hit movie, the term Groundhog Day has become associated with any repetitive scenario.

Bill Murray (Ghostbusters, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania) stars in the role of Phil Connors, a weatherman who gets stuck in a time loop after begrudgingly travelling to Punxsutawney to cover Groundhog day.

Meanwhile, Andie MacDowell (Netflix’s Maid, Four Weddings and a Funeral) portrays producer and Phil’s love interest, Rita Hanson, while Chris Elliott (How I Met Your Mother, The King of Queens, Schitt’s Creek) stars as Phil’s cameraman, Larry.

Other cast members include Stephen Tobolowsky (Thelma & Louise, Spaceballs), who stars as an insurance agent, and Brian Doyle-Murray, Bill Murray’s brother, who had a small role in Groundhog Day as Buster, a man who chokes on some food in a restaurant.
